How long should my massage be?

One of our most frequently asked questions is about the length of time a massage should take, and which duration to choose. We offer 30, 60 and 90 minute massages, so which is best for you?

It might be confusing which length of time to choose for your first massage or if you haven’t already spoken to a therapist who can help point you in the right direction. The best way to work it out is think about which area(s) you need work on.

30 minutes

A 30 minute appointment would be sufficient if your therapist has seen you before and if you are wanting work done on a small area, such as the feet, neck or a particular joint. Your therapist should be able to pinpoint the exact location within 30 minutes. We see a lot of clients in their lunch break as a 30 minute appointment fits nicely into their schedule.

60 minutes

If you are wanting a specific region working on, such as your back or legs, then 60 minutes is your best option. The time allows your therapist to really get into the muscles and focus on alleviating tension and knots. If there is a lot of built-up tension, the body can take time to release this, so working slowly and firmly encourages relaxation and re-alignment.

We also recommend an hour if this is your first session with us. Your therapist needs sufficient time to go through a consultation form so we have all the relevant information to ensure you get the best treatment tailored to YOUR needs.

90 minutes

A full body massage done properly definitely requires 90 minutes. This allows time for communication, assessment and analysis, relaxation (yes, honestly!), and we pride ourselves in working with your body, not just speeding through a treatment due to time constraints. The therapist needs sufficient time to cover your legs, back, potentially arms, shoulders and neck - and work for longer periods of time on the area of concern to you. It may be possible to cover legs and back in 60 minutes, but if time is then compromised on each area you may not feel the full beneficial effects of a deep tissue massage.

When you book your massage, you'll be offered a choice of 30, 60 or 90 minute slots. If you aren't sure which to book, please get in touch with us and we will advise you.
