what is deep tissue massage?
Deep Tissue Massage is a type of remedial massage that focuses on realigning the deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue. This approach is extremely beneficial for areas of the body that are suffering from chronically tense and contracted muscles. These are typically:
- Lower back tightness
- Sore shoulders
- Stiff neck
The techniques are similar to those used in traditional massage but the movement is slower and the pressure applied is deeper and more concentrated.
how it works
Deep Tissue Massage is designed to break down deep adhesions (bands of painful rigid tissue) in affected muscles, ligaments and tendons. These adhesions cause a restriction of blood flow through the muscle, creating pain, inflammation and restrictions in movement. To achieve this, the therapist uses focused pressure and friction across the grain of the muscle to physically breakdown adhesions. Once broken down, pain will be relieved and the range of movement restored to normal.
