Meet our new Sports Therapist, Lani Duncan!
Posted on 29th June 2021 at 13:48
Lani is new to Fire & Earth so we thought we’d ask her to share her story so you can find out more about her.
Over to you, Lani…
About Me
Hi, I’m Lani and I am a fully qualified (BSc) Sports and Exercise Therapist. I graduated from Leeds Beckett University in 2019 with a First-Class Honours degree. I’m excited to be a new part of the Fire and Earth team! Although I’ve only been here a short period of time, I’m already gaining valuable knowledge which is enabling me to grow as a therapist. I am passionate about the prevention and rehabilitation process of injuries using a combination of manual therapy and soft tissue treatments to help get my clients back to doing the things they love.
Experience
As part of my placement at university I had the privilege to work alongside the medical teams at Bradford City Football Club, Leeds Rhinos, and Yorkshire Carnegie. Once I graduated I was appointed the position as the assistant Sports Therapist at Nuneaton Borough Football Club. These experiences have allowed me to provide treatment for a variety of individuals as well as allowing me to have a deeper understanding into the causes of many injuries and how these can be rehabilitated in ways to suit the person.
Before becoming a Fire & Earth Therapist, I was a personal trainer at Nuffield Health. Here I helped people in a different way; this ranged from helping someone achieve their target weight or teaching someone the correct squat technique. I get enjoyment from helping other people, and the skills I have learnt working in a commercial gym can be transferred to working with the people who walk through the doors of Fire & Earth.
Passions and Interests
I’ve performed doing dancing since the age of 5. I had opportunities to dance at many prestigious theatres such as The Royal Albert Hall, Sadlers Wells and Her Majesty’s. I have also danced on board the Royal Caribbean Independence of the Seas and the Royal Caribbean Explorer of the Seas. Although my original dream was to go to dance college in London, I decided to pursue a career In sports therapy and to specialise in dance specific injuries, having experienced many myself. My aim as a Sports and Exercise Therapist is to enable clients to continue doing what they enjoy and to live their life pain-free.
I am currently working at Simply Gym, Cannon Park, Coventry on Mondays, Tuesdays and Saturdays, and at The Quadrant, Coventry, on Thursdays and Fridays.
I can’t wait to meet you all and fix those niggles that are preventing you from doing the things you love or even give you some advice.
