Well done team GB!
Team GB are doing so well we are in 2nd place on the overall medal table with many more events to come. We are certainly enjoying all the games and hope you are too. As we prepare for another week helping clients it got me thinking about how much massage can play a part in a successful training plan.
Benefits of Massage for Rio Athletes
According to the American Massage Therapy Association (AMTA), massage acts to improve performance, reduce pain, prevent injury, encourage focus and shorten recovery time
Massage affects the cardiovascular system, it dilates blood vessels, which help them to work more efficiently to promote circulation
The manual assistance of encouraging venous blood flow back to the heart enhances blood flow, which delivers fresh oxygen and nutrients to the tissue and promotes the removal of waste products and toxins
Due to the relaxed state that the athlete is in during and post massage, their heart rate will decrease.
All in all great benefits can be achieved with pre / post event massage.
