Small Business Saturday is a grassroots, not-for-profit campaign, that was originally founded by American Express in the U.S. in 2010. American Express remains the principal supporter of the campaign in the UK, as part of its ongoing commitment to encourage consumers to shop locally and support small businesses.

On Small Business Saturday (this year it’s on 7th December) customers across the UK are encouraged to go out and support all types of small businesses, online, in offices and in stores. Many small businesses take part in the day by hosting events and offering discounts. In its seventh year, Small Business Saturday is the UK's most successful small business campaign, which last year saw an estimated £812 million spent in small businesses across the UK on the day.

Director of Small Business Saturday, Michelle Ovens MBE said:

“Each year this campaign has grown in support from government, business and communities alike, and so we can’t wait to begin the annual 100-day countdown to Small Business Saturday with the launch of the Small Biz 100 2019.

“Small Business Saturday’s increasing popularity means it was harder than ever to choose just 100 of this country’s incredible 5.6 million small businesses to showcase, but we believe those we have chosen are true representatives of the diverse, creative and inspiring heroes at the heart of our communities.”

It was originally suggested by a friend that we enter these awards. 2019 marks our 10th year in business and to celebrate that, we thought why not?

We didn’t think too much about it, so it was a huge surprise to get the email saying we’d been accepted as part of the small biz 100. We were so happy to be recognised – it’s such a great feeling. We’ve all worked hard over the last few years to build a great team that work together and play together, giving the best value possible to our clients.

Part of being selected means you get a full day online to showcase what you do, and our day has been allocated as the 13th October. The Small Business Saturday campaign promotes us locally and nationally across all social media platforms. The Federation of Small Businesses also give us a shout out on their local channels. How cool is that?

There was even a lovely write up about us by SmallBiz100 which was sent to local press.

“A sports massage business from Coventry has been selected as one of 100 trail-blazing small businesses in the official count-down to Small Business Saturday, which takes place across the UK on 7 December 2019.

Fire & Earth Sports Massage is one of this year’s ‘Small Biz 100’, a selection of small businesses drawn from every corner of the UK that reflect the vibrancy of the UK’s 5.6 million small businesses. In the 100 days running up to Small Business Saturday, the campaign will spotlight each of the Small Biz 100, as part of its mission to celebrate small business success and encourage the nation to 'shop local' and support British small businesses.”

We were also invited to attend the SmallBiz100 awards night back in September down in London. Two members of the team were able to attend so John and Tanya put their glad rags on and went and networked with all the other winners. After a few too many glasses of prosecco and some nice food we did some mingling and made our way back on the last train home full of excitement for the 13th October.

Our day, 13th October, will consist of lots of top tip videos and a celebratory special offer so keep your eyes peeled on the day for our posts!

At the end of the campaign we are lucky enough to have been invited to London again for a special event at the House of Lords. We are so incredibly lucky to be in a position to do the jobs we do. Who else gets to play at work in the gym, chatting to such lovely, interesting people all day - and most of all get to make them feel better and help them get back to what they enjoy doing in their life? On top of this we now have this fabulous experience and hopefully reach more people we can help!

Thank you to all our lovely, lovely clients who support us and make our days happy.
